New Morse Code is dedicated to enriching contemporary culture by advocating for new expressions in music and art. New Morse Code strives to present bold, engaging performances of new works while catalyzing collaboration with instrumentalists, actors, dancers, and visual artists.
During the 2011-2012 season, New Morse Code worked with composers Paul Kerekes, Robert Honstein, and Andy Akiho on premieres of new works and new arrangements at venues such as 92Y Tribeca, the Norfolk Chamber Music Festival, and Dwight Chapel at Yale University. NeMoCo has worked with renowned composers David Lang and Kaija Saariaho on performances of their works and shared the stage with pianist/composers Timo Andres and Paul Kerekes.
In March 2012, New Morse Code created Basement Hades: Songs of the Underworld, a cross-genre musical drama, with a team of artistic collaborators from the Yale Schools of Music and Drama. Basement Hades is a contemporary retelling of the Orpheus myth which weaves together a virtuosic tapestry of song and poetry and blurs the boundaries between concert, play and multimedia event. During a sold-out run at the Yale Cabaret, Basement Hades was hailed as “stunningly moving” by the New Haven Review and lauded as one of the Cabaret’s top productions of the season.
