On the beautiful clear evening of January 23, with snow storms raging to the south of us shutting down major cities on the Eastern seaboard, Plowshare Farm’s community gathered in the Agora to listen to the warm voice and instrumentals of Indra jazz trio. They played gorgeous jazz standards, beloved popular tunes and then treated the audience to some classic David Bowie tunes. It was a great evening among friends!
Electric Earth Concerts is thrilled to announce the return of Jennifer Sheehan. When we introduced Jennifer to the Monadnock Region last January, she instantly won the hearts of the audience with her engaging and dynamic performance of the American Songbook. Electric Earth Concerts presents Auréole Trio (flute, viola and harp), Saturday evening, September 7 at 7:30pm at Congregation Ahavas Achim, 84 Hastings Avenue, Keene, New Hampshire. The program will include two works by pivotal classical Israeli composers: Paul Ben-Haim’s Chamber Music (1978) and Lior Navok’s Veiled Echoes (2008) as well as Rameau’s Piece de Clavecin, Claude Debussy’s Sonate and a selection of Celtic reels and dances. Electric Earth Concerts’ final 2013 concert mixes romantic chamber music of Mendelssohn and Strauss with the sophisticated sound of a jazz-latin duo. “The contrast” according to Laura Gilbert, co-Artistic Director, “is meant to heighten the impact of each piece on the program, and to remind the audience of the universal qualities of interplay and intimacy that are at the heart of great chamber music, whatever the style or era. Plus we think it makes a really fun and festive finale to our season.”
The concert is being held at the First Church in Jaffrey Center on Saturday, November 16, at 7:30 pm. The program begins with vocal-bass duo Mili Bermejo and Dan Greenspan, who find a place “where jazz meets Latin with elegance and soul” according to the Boston Globe. Co-Artistic Director Jonathan Bagg says: “their intimate, sophisticated sound begins the gala evening. From there the forces expand to six, in a performance of the Sextet from Richard Strauss’ Capriccio. It’s a haunting single movement work from 1942 that showcases the supreme gifts of the world’s last great Romantic composer. Mendelssohn’s ever-fresh Octet for Strings, written when he was only 16, finishes the concert.”
In addition to Bermejo and Greenspan, performers will include Adela Pena, violin, formerly of the Eroica Trio; Lilit Gampel, violin; plus Electric Earth regulars Elizabeth Anderson, cello, and Jonathan Bagg, viola, with others TBA.
Laura Gilbert says: “This event culminates a season that included the complete cycle of Beethoven Quartets given by the Borromeo Quartet, a cabaret evening with rising star Jennifer Sheehan, Met Opera newcomer Jennifer Johnson Cano, the brilliant Horszowski Trio, to name just a few of our offerings this year. We are full-steam ahead planning next year, and can already promise the return of the Borromeo Quartet for a Bartok quartet cycle, phenomenal Swiss pianist Olivier Cave and another cabaret night with Jennifer Sheehan. But that’s only the beginning!”

Electric Earth Concerts presents New Morse Code, a cello- percussion duo quickly gaining a reputation for their commitment to bold, engaging performances, and to catalyzing collaborations with composers, actors, dancers, and visual artists. Cellist Hannah Collins and percussionist Michael Compitello will present “Shifting Patterns,” a program of rhythm-driven music which explores the fascinating effects of changing the motion and flow of various musical images. The concert will feature works by Pulitzer prize winners Steve Reich, David Lang, and 2013 winner Caroline Shaw, as well as the North American premiere of A Sense of Place, by South African composer Peter Klatzow. The duo will also share brand new material from their current collaboration with electroacoustic composer Samuel Carl Adams.
From a new breed of versatile, boundary-stretching performers, New Morse Code brings talent, intelligence, and an infectious devotion to making today’s music come alive. Their repertoire is new, their approach is informal and interactive, and their performances are completely unique!
The duo is in residence for two weeks at Avaloch Farm Music Institute in Boscawen, New Hamshire, a brand new retreat center for musical groups engaged in preparing major new projects. This is the second group Electric Earth Concerts will present as part of an ongoing collaboration.

Artist and Metropolitan Museum educator Nitza Horner brings her paints and brushes, while New Morse Code duo brings their music, to this “Peak into Peterborough” event. Regardless of skill (or age!), all are invited to paint to the music, guided by Nitza’s expert hands. This is a FREE event.
