Electric Earth Concerts will present Pianist Rieko Aizawa in concert at Bass Hall, at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture (Peterborough Historical Society) on March 15 at 7:30 pm.As the pianist in the acclaimed Horszowski Trio, Aizawa has performed for several seasons in the Monadnock region, gaining a strong following.

As the pianist in the acclaimed Horszowski Trio, Aizawa has performed for several seasons in the Monadnock region, gaining a strong following.
“This is a chance to experience her powerful presence alone at the keyboard,” says Jonathan Bagg, co-Artistic Director of Electric Earth Concerts.
A native of Japan, Ms. Aizawa has performed in prominent venues around the world, such Lincoln Center’s Avery Fisher Hall, Boston’s Symphony Hall and Chicago’s Orchestra Hall. Concerto appearances include the New Japan Philharmonic, the English Chamber Orchestra, the Festival Strings Lucerne, the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, the St. Louis Symphony, and a highly acclaimed performance with the Vienna Chamber Orchestra.
Electric Earth Concerts’ co-Director Laura Gilbert first encountered Aizawa while touring as flutist in Alexander Schneider’s Brandenburg Ensemble, when Rieko played a Mozart concerto with the group. Gilbert says: “Here was this 15 year-old who played with complete authority and her own elegant voice. I was instantly a fan.” She was discovered by Schneider at age 13 on the recommendation of pianist Mitsuko Uchida and made her U.S. debut with him in concerts at the Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall, with his New York String Orchestra.
Ms. Aizawa received her Masters Degree from the Juilliard School, where she worked with Peter Serkin. She is also a graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where she won the prestigious Rachmaninoff Prize and studied with Seymour Lipkin, Peter Serkin, and Mieczyslaw Horszowski as his last pupil. Her solo recording on the Japanese label Altus Music is of Shostakovich’s and Scriabin’s “24 Preludes.” A second CD of Faure’s and Messiaen’s preludes, will come out in 2013.
Ms. Aizawa lives in New York City and is on the faculty at the Longy School of Music of Bard College and Montclair State University in New Jersey.
