Alexander Bonus is Assistant Professor of Music at the Bard College. He has taught at Duke University, where he also served as director of Collegium Musicum; and at Case Western, where he was a SAGES Fellow and lecturer in music. He was a New Faculty Fellow, American Council of Learned Societies, and has received grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, American Musicological Society, and Case Western Reserve University. He has performed with Apollo’s Fire: The Cleveland Baroque Orchestra (baroque trumpet) and Boston Early Music Festival Orchestra, whose recording of Psyché by J.-B. Lully on the CPO label was nominated for a Grammy Award. His discography also includes recordings by Centaur Records and Forces of Virtue Records, which he founded in 2003. In addition to the trumpet, he has performance experience on the cornetto and keyboards. Forthcoming publications include entries on the metronome and mobile phone for The New Grove Dictionary of Musical Instruments.
